What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a natural holistic therapy suitable for men and women of all ages and involves applying gentle pressure to the feet and sometimes hands.  It is based on the principle that different points on the feet correspond with different areas of the body and can be used to help restore the body's natural balance.

The reflexology treatment itself is relaxing and pleasant, and some clients even find themselves falling asleep during the treatment!

Reflexology is also recognised by the NHS, and an increasing number of referrals are being made by GPs and hospices.  It can be used effectively alongside conventional medicine, but should not be used in place of seeking professional medical advise.

Reflexology Treatment

During the first visit with a new client I will carry out a full consultation to understand your goals of the treatment, as well as information about your lifestyle and medical history, and to address any concerns you might have.

The treatment is then carried out with the client lying on a reclining chair and will take approximately 60 minutes.

History of Reflexology

It is claimed that the art of reflexology dates back to ancient Egypt, India and China, however it was not introduced to the west until the early 1900s when Dr William Fitzgerald developed 'Zone therapy'. He believed that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone.

In the 1930's, Eunice Ingham further developed this zone theory into what is known today as reflexology. Her opinion was that congestion or tension in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body.
